In the 1920s, the Orchestra Model (OM) was originally designed as a large guitar capable of standing out over the other instruments in the orchestra, hence its name. While it fulfilled this role, its relatively large body was soon eclipsed by the powerful Dreadnought, which then established itself as the benchmark. Fortunately, the OM had secured its place in history thanks to its versatility and unmatched playing comfort.
Santa Cruz was among the first modern luthiers to reintroduce the OM, in the early 1980s. This was done through an approach that consisted of combining the most desirable attributes of the old and the new rather than simply making a copy. This allowed Santa Cruz to reach a new audience: connoisseurs and lovers of fine guitars were delighted! Santa Cruz had made a name for itself by offering OMs of impressive quality. Ironically, this enthusiasm for the OM then encouraged the venerable originator to reintroduce this model into its own range a few years later. Eric Clapton, John Mayer and many others did the rest!
The OM is delightfully versatile. Among the musicians who play the Santa Cruz OM are James Nash, John Mayer, and Elvis Costello. This model offers clear, powerful highs, with a very rich and articulate top end. This is complemented by warm, dynamic mids and slightly prominent lows. Popular for both fingerstyle and contemporary flatpicking, the OM is the brand's best-selling model.

This OM Custom features a construction built around a Sitka spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. Ivoroid and herringbone binding highlights the beauty of its lines. The abalone rosette adds a luxurious yet understated touch. The neck features the traditional design of pre-war guitars. A very comfortable V-shaped profile, combined with a fingerboard ebony neck with Diamond Squares inlays, ensures smooth playability. This combination delivers perfectly balanced tones.
