Aesthetically, the head has reduced dimensions and weighs only a few kilos. It will be ideal if you move often or are looking for an amp that can be transported very easily. Black Tolex, silver piping and black panel, the finish could not be more sober. The controls on the front are reduced to the strict minimum: a 3-band EQ, a volume and a mini switch to activate a bright. That's all!. On the rear panel 2 outputs 8.4 and 2 ohms and an effects loop as standard.
We chose a Stratocaster type guitar to evaluate the Pearl, not without apprehension... Indeed, attacking the tenors of the genre that are the Two-Rock, F*chs and other F*nder Custom Shop is not a small matter! Once the guitar is plugged in and well... It's the big "claquade"!! Wow! We are simply glued and surprised by the sound delivered by this small size! The first thing that strikes is the purity and balance of each note and chord. It is extremely precise and "balanced" the bass is tight, the treble crystal clear. The attack is enormous and the lower cost of a pick comes back to us very very very quickly. The answer is clearly a model of its kind. The general voicing of the amp is quite high pitched with a slight compression at the top of the spectrum. The amp benefits from a solid reserve of headroom with rich and complex highs. The Pearl shows a certain mellowness, the notes crash slightly on the attack which bodes well for a very "pedal-friendly" head.
Pedalboard underfoot, it's confirmed, the Pearl is an impressive "clean" base and perfectly accepts the vast majority of pedals used during our tests (99.99%?). It's a real lethal weapon for guitarists with a pedalboard provided. It is therefore easy to understand the concept developed by Port City with the Pearl. A featherweight amp that you can easily carry with you in addition to your pedalboard. The perfect configuration for the nomadic guitarist who can find his sound, wherever he is, while maintaining maximum versatility.
Like all "beautiful" Clean amps, the Pearl is demanding and unforgiving. However, what a foot to have such a responsive and addictive amp. If you acquire a Pearl head, believe us, you will play much less saturated! :) Port City strikes a blow with this magnificent clear channel at an affordable price that we recommend to you 200%! Note: The 100W version provides more power and headroom for those who want a "clean" that remains perfectly clear even at high volume.
