Mid Air

The Nordvang Mid Air is a TS-like effects pedal for those who like and… don't like TS! Instead of making a banal copy of TS10 or 808 like there are dozens on the market. Nordvang has incorporated a whole bunch of extra-features which allow you to have the grain of the best TS, while expanding its field of action drastically and offering many more sound textures. All thanks to intelligent design in a compact package.

Regarding the case, we are very high-end, as always with the Danish brand. Perfect finish, hand-picked components and original design. We find the usual Drive, Level and Tone buttons. Also, a Boost button to control the output level of the associated channel and an Air button which allows you to adjust the frequencies of the TS circuit to go further, with more presence, more brilliance and more click than the original . With the Low toggle switch you go further into the low end of the spectrum where a TS is generally relatively “atrophied”. Finally, the EQ toggle offers you 3 positions: Full frequency, Low-mids and High-mids. The icing on the cake, inside, you have 4 dip-switches which work as follows:

1- Clean Boost: If you mainly use the TS with a very low gain setting and you always wanted to have a little output level and headroom.
2- Clipping: Removes the diodes from the circuit. If you are looking for more dynamics and less compression.
3 and 4 - Clipping: Dip-switches 3 and 4 give you a variety of additional diode settings. Choose between balanced gain, using 2 or 4 diodes, or 2 different options for a 3-diode unbalanced gain structure, with the highest clipping threshold (positive or negative).

The Boost slice is completely isolated and is located before the drive (TS circuit). It's a clean boost based on an ultra transparent OP-Amp. You can associate the 3-band EQ with it. This slice allows you to recover enormous dynamics and to very widely broaden the spectrum of the TS circuit. For those who find the TS too narrow, you no longer have the problem!
The input stage has an (excellent) buffer. Instead of simply opting for the usual buffered bypass which is composed of three NPN transistor buffer stages in series, Nordvang chose another option. Directly inspired by Gravity, the Mid Air benefits from 2 buffers in series based on TS and Klon (OP-Amp) which provide a very beautiful and unique color. This can be activated or deactivated as needed.

On a clean channel with a strat we are in full John Mayer, Philip Sayce, SRV... It is very dynamic, much richer and detailed than a usual TS and above all much more versatile. Oh and we forgot… stack that on a Marshall JCM… goodbye John Mayer and hello Slayer / Metallica! You not only have the boost but you also have the surgical frequency corrections, which the classic TS does not have. The mid Air is really good at everything!
In the end, we find a TS10 boosted in every way with an Amp Like dynamic which will make it desirable even for those who don't like TS. As always, transparency, silence, musicality and progressiveness of the settings are the prerogative of Nordvang. The Danish does not disappoint!
