The KarDiaN Serotonin C10H12N2O is a pedal in the TS-808 Vintage style, with many modifications. A high-end construction, an extended gain range, extreme dynamics, a 2-band EQ instead of the usual Tone knob and overall a tool to sculpt your sound, with a killer midrange!
A brief tour of the chassis. Long story short, it's a killer. no more no less. The finish is magnificent, the attention to detail rarely seen for a product of this type (a pedal), everything is handmade, it's light, super well insulated and it hits once on the pedalboard.
Inside, how can you tell? Things are tough for the competition. It's simple, it's the best and it's beautiful. Yes, it's beautiful to look at it's so well done. From Texas Instrument, Amtrans AMRG resistors (1% tolerance, non-magnetic, brass end caps, gold-plated oxygen-free copper leads...), Vishay and Jantzen Audio capacitors, etc... and top-notch PCBs. 4 buttons: Volume, Drive, Treble, Bass, 9VDC power supply. It's a beating!
Connected to Two-Rock Traditional Clean with a small compressor and a Klon KTR, we make a "small" setup à la John Mayer, strato Mike Bowes in hand, we are ready. To use the C10H12N2O at best, we apply the same recipe as with an original TS808: we stack it on other pedals or to boost a crunch channel. In our case, we do like Mr. Mayer or like the Nashville studios and others, we use it as an additional gain stage which allows us to go through the mix perfectly. Indeed, the Serotonin offers you a fluid drive, very high mid, with a soft and rich top of the spectrum. Attention, here, it is much less rigid than a usual TS, we have an extended frequency range and above all a possibility of equalizing the pedal in a completely different way. Indeed, many TS lack a little low, or a little slamming depending on the setup. Well with this KarDiaN you correct all these problems and it allows you even more flexibility to integrate it into your chain of effects.
The KarDiaN Serotonin C10H12N2O casts a wide net thanks to its extended drive and its ultra-reactive corrections. Its sound signature putting the midrange frequencies forward does not distort the rest of the spectrum and it retains a very beautiful transparency which allows it to stack on just about anything and everything. If you use your drives as different "levels" of gain and want to thicken your sound, gain density and presence, you have one of the market references described above! Classic, yes, but even better :-)
