The Grobert Lux Vibe is a revised and corrected version of the famous Shin-ei Univibe. Popularized by legendary guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour and Robin Trower, the Univibe is a pedal as capricious as it is sought after by collectors of all stripes. Indeed, no two pedals sound identical due to their unique and highly fluctuating design. With its Opto Voice function, the Lux Vibe offers you a qualitative solution to correct this problem. Compact format, increased functionality and top-notch manufacturing, it has everything to be a must of its kind and that's what we're going to see!
Aesthetically, the case is very neat, it meets high-end boutique standards. Quality PCB, firm knobs, nothing is left to chance. First thing we note, the controls. It's crowded and that gives you enormous versatility for an effect like this. Crucially, the Lux Vibe offers two channels. We can therefore have two completely separate settings for depth, speed, volume, chorus, etc. We can then play with the frequencies and modulation with the available mini switches.
First thing we note, the pedal generates very little noise and does not suffer from the usual defects of most modulations (hiss, clearly audible phase, over-compression...) Second thing, the effect is profound , rich and retains the attack and dynamics of the signal. This Vibe “doesn’t crush”. By activating Chorus mode, you get a lush, warm and complex Vibe. It's beautiful, spatialized and it embellishes your sound in a very beautiful way. Many Vibes can be quite dark or lack dynamics by being too muddy. The Lux Vibe corrects this problem with the Bright switch which boosts the Presence of the effect. We can also act on the low end of the spectrum with the Feedback switch which adds depth and intensity. Finally, and this is the whole point of the Lux Vibe, we benefit from the Optometries Voice function. This knob makes it possible to overcome the inconsistency of the original circuit by offering the possibility of adjusting the frequency curve of the effect. Concretely, you vary the phase of the effect by obtaining a more or less assertive sinusoid and by limiting / widening the frequency range. This in parallel with the mini-switches allows for increased versatility and deep interaction with the effect.
The Grobet Lux Vibe is a superb Univibe offered at an ultra aggressive price. Indeed, we are a long way from the 1500-2000 euros of the original model! The Lux Vibe benefits from careful manufacturing, a range of expanded sounds and tones that will allow you to cover all the sounds of the 60's, 70's and more. Excellent value for money that we highly recommend.
