The controls could not be more classic: Gain, Volume Tone and… “Grunt” which is where the magic lies. Indeed, this button allows you to act on the frequency response of the input signal before it attacks the gain stage. With it, you can thicken or refine the drive to go from a massive and devastating Fuzz to a tight, 60's, in the vein of Fuzz Face and other classics.
Small subtlety which is important, the DG Fuzz is equipped with a buffer which will allow you to place it wherever you want and also not to have an effect which fluctuates depending on the other pedals present within your effects chain . You will also maintain a quality signal, without losing treble, even with long cable lengths.
In terms of design, the DG Fuzz is a clever mix between a largely modified Fuzz circuit and a treble booster. This gives it access to sounds that most Fuzz pedals don't have. Connected to a clear sound, you activate it by pressing the superb “skull” button which always has its little effect. We immediately note that the signal-to-noise ratio is very controlled and that the pedal is heavy in terms of dynamics and response.
By pushing the gain it's a real wall of sound, very dense, with this boomy side to the attack which characterizes very good pedals of the genre, this, with total control over the sound and the frequencies. The Grunt button is absolutely demonic, it is extremely effective when put in parallel with the Tone button. All the right frequencies are there and we can act on them very precisely to tune the effect and match the sound we have in mind.
With the gain at high, the Grunt pushed and the Tone at 1:00 p.m., we have a bulldozer in Rival Mode Angry Sounds. Ultra dense, fluid, with almost infinite sustain. Whether you play on a strat, a Les Paul or others, the DG is plug 'n play and immediately very flattering.
