In terms of construction and aesthetics, no surprise, the overall design is typical of the brand, the case is top and the workmanship flawless, as always! On the front panel, there are the usual Gain and Level controls, as well as a 2-band EQ. There is also a button called "Kaputt" (everyone knows roughly what that means;) which is really the Black Beast's lethal weapon.
First thing that we note, even with the Gain knob at the bottom, a large amount of treble and a pushed Level: the pedal retains a very limited noise level. This is good news and it shows that nothing was overlooked during the development of the Black Beast. Second thing to note, the Black Baest sounds rich, dense and like no other pedal of its kind! The magic is actually there. This pedal is a 100% original and 100% customizable fuzz / distortion! She is 50/50 and as you hear it! This is thanks to the Kaputt button, which allows us to more or less degrade a basic drive and bring it to a psychedelic fuzz by modifying the gain structure. Who has never dreamed of having a little more Fuzz on a distortion or a little more precision and compression on a fuzz? The Black Beast allows you to do this and does it in a superb way.
On the one hand, therefore, we have the possibility of having a high-gain distortion, with a nice upper midrange, precise bass and an overall very warm voicing (and not at all metal). And on the other, a super FAT and dense Fuzz that we can deconstruct as we hear. It is also important to note that in fuzz use and even with a lot of gain, the Black Beast remains perfectly balanced, detailed, audible and punchy, without ever "crashing" and losing momentum. The 2-band EQ is no stranger to this, it works wonderfully by allowing us to more or less clarify the general rendering. It will also be very effective in correcting the sound spectrum depending on the guitar or bass you will be using. At its maximum, the Kaputt button will deliver an out-of-control fuzz that will delight fans of the genre.
To conclude, the Black Beast is clearly a success. And a 100% original success because it is not based on any existing circuit and offered at one of the most attractive prices. If you are looking for a distortion that takes up space with a lot of sustain, a fuzz à la J. Bonamassa, heavy and dynamic, or a Fuzz "full crazyness", the Black Beast is made for you!
