With only 5mm of footprint when plugged in, the SL-4 is one of the most compact solderless plugs on the market. Its main innovation over the SL-8: the tip and the core wire connection pin are now integrated into a single piece, for more direct signal transmission. Assembly is simple and fast. The CU-416 cable is inserted directly inside the plug, with a tip piercing its center to establish the electrical connection. An adjustable screw then partially penetrates the cable sheath to ensure grounding and mechanical retention. This is the exact point that sets the SL-4 apart from generic solderless systems: pull-out resistance is unmatched. The cap is replaceable and available in 6 colors via the SLC-4A series, ideal for visually coding inputs, outputs, and effect loops. The SL-4 comes in straight (SL-4S) and L-angle (SL-4L) configurations, each available in nickel (NI) or gold (GD) finish. The paired cable, the CU-416, is 4mm in diameter, features shape memory, and can be cut to any desired length with standard wire cutters. It also supports DC power from 9V to 24V.
The CU-416 is the cable of neutrality and precision. Its sonic character is natural and balanced: present and detailed mids, tight and dynamic bass. The solderless construction ensures total consistency from one cable to the next, without the inevitable variations of hand-soldered connections. It is the thinnest cable in the Free The Tone lineup, the ideal choice for compact pedalboards where every centimeter counts. The CU-416 is also backward compatible with the older SL-8 plugs, making a gradual migration to the new series straightforward.
The SL-4 combined with the CU-416 is aimed at guitarists who want a precisely organized pedalboard with zero compromise on signal quality. It is the go-to solderless system for compact setups. For a reinforced frequency range in the lower end of the spectrum or increased solidity for use without a fixed pedalboard, the SL-5 series paired with the CU-5050 cable is the alternative to consider.
