Twin Sonic MKII | Dual Stacking Overdrive

The Twin Sonic MKII is, in a sense, the Swiss Army knife of the OKKO lineup. But unlike most multi-tools, it excels at everything it offers. That's what makes it the flagship of the range, through its range of possibilities, intelligent design and sheer effectiveness.

The OKKO Twin Sonic MKII is a pedal offering two fully independent overdrive channels. On the construction and aesthetic front, no surprises: the overall design is excellent, the enclosure is top-notch and the build quality is flawless, as always with OKKO. Each channel features Gain and Level controls, a Voice knob that shapes the EQ character (wide and full to the left, tighter and punchier with pronounced mids to the right), a Hi-Cut to adjust treble and presence, and a Mode toggle switch that adjusts the bass frequencies. The right channel (red) is placed before the left channel (blue) in the signal chain. Worth noting: the Twin Sonic MKII runs internally on 18V via a built-in charge pump circuit — no special power supply required — for maximum headroom and dynamics.

One of the great strengths of OKKO pedals, the Twin Sonic MKII included, is that whatever guitar you play — Strat, Les Paul or anything else — it sounds right. Same goes for the amp: it works with a huge range of configurations without any special requirements. The OKKO Twin Sonic MKII is compatible with a wide variety of setups and can also be used as a preamp directly into a power amp or amp simulator.

Les Paul in hand on a clean channel, starting with the red channel (right), what strikes immediately is its transparency and dynamics. Not a lot of gain, but a light, open drive with a pronounced mid hump reminiscent of the best TS-style pedals, plus that grainy character typical of OKKO pedals. This channel stacks superbly on a drive channel to push it further and add thickness. It also works brilliantly as a boost for a touch of breakup on a clean sound. With humbuckers, the red channel is devastating.

Moving to the blue channel (left), the voicing shifts to a JTM / British-inspired character: thicker, more low-mid focused, with more gain on tap. As on the red channel, the Voice knob is remarkably effective: turned left, the drive fattens up and smooths out; turned right, articulation and presence increase. Voice and Hi-Cut work perfectly together.

Combining both channels is simply something else. The overdrive is magnificent — a model of naturalness and musicality. Transparent yet characterful, the Twin Sonic MKII brings its own sonic signature while respecting whatever it is stacked on. Open, punchy, superbly articulate, responsive and dense — truly amp-like. For anyone who dismisses overdrive pedals as a compromise: this is a genuine additional channel for your amp. The Twin Sonic MKII will faithfully reproduce every detail of your playing.
