The KingTone Guitar Rise v3 is a 3-in-1 pedal designed as a true guitar preamp. As a clean boost, light overdrive, and fuzz, it revives the spirit of old germanium treble boosters, but with the flexibility and ultra-musical character of KingTone pedals.
As always with Jesse Davey, the craftsmanship is exemplary: a sturdy enclosure, firm and durable knobs, quality components, and a genuine boutique feel. This v3 adds a CNC aluminum enclosure that exudes quality, top-mounted jacks, permanent laser engraving, and standard 9VDC power capability.
The Drive, Volume, Tone, and Glass controls allow for very precise sculpting of the pedal's response. The Glass knob transforms the Rise from a thicker fuzz grit to more open, bright, and glassy sounds, while the Tone cut/boost allows you to adapt the pedal to your amp, guitar, or effects chain by offering more or less clarity and thickness.
The Rise v3 retains its enormous volume reserve for pushing a tube amp, waking up a crunch channel, or attacking an existing overdrive on your pedalboard. The Drive / Vintage / Fuzz toggle changes the overall voicing of the pedal, while the Ge / Si switch allows you to choose between the warmth and "spongy" attack of germanium and a straighter, tighter, and more "in your face" silicon response.
On a clean channel, the Rise v3 works wonderfully as a clean boost or treble boost, with clarity, warmth, sustain, and presence. In drive mode, it provides a light, dynamic, and very reactive saturation. In fuzz mode, it delivers that vintage, lively, and organic feel, perfect for pushing an already slightly distorted amp.
The KingTone Rise v3 is therefore an excellent boutique Swiss Army knife: boost, overdrive, fuzz, preamp. Enough to boost your drive with harmonics and grit, it handles everything. From 60s/70s sounds to modern glassy clean, from transparent boost to woody and sustainy fuzz, it adds punch, clarity, and character without altering your sound.
