Presence acts as an active high-frequency corrector: you can tame an overly bright amp, open up a dark cabinet, or add bite without making the pedal aggressive. But the essential control is Rumble. Fully cranked, you get the enormous low-end of a stock Green Russian, that immense bass that bassists love. By reducing it, you progressively tame this mass of lows, especially with a guitar into a clean amp and a lot of distortion. The result: the EQ stabilizes, the low-end no longer overflows, notes breathe better, and the fuzz remains massive without becoming muddy. On an already crunchy amp or stacked with an overdrive, you can often leave it wide open to retain the circuit's full thrust.
